Maple fiddle-back side chair with serpentine crest rail and rounded ears; fiddle-shaped splat with a horizontal crosspiece at the bottom; shaped stiles continuing into canted back legs; rush seat; undulating skirt; cabriole front legs; box-form stretchers, double spindle on the sides, single spindle in back, and single baluster in front; pad feet. Savery, William, 1721 or 1722-1787

William Savery was possibly apprenticed to Solomon Fussell of Philadelphia between 1735 to 1741. He advertised regularly in Philadelphia papers between 1750 and 1772 and was probably working until his death in 1787. It is not known whether he himself carved the items he constructed.
